A couple of days ago, I wrote about the new Halloween cakes that Starbucks Korea recently started selling. However, these interesting cakes are not the only new menu items, as they have unveiled three new drinks to celebrate this terrifying holiday!
The three new drinks that Starbucks is selling now are: Pumpkin Spice Latte; Vanilla Mummy Creamy Frappuccino; Iced Gentle Joker Sweet and Sour.
After ordering the three drinks, I went to check out all the new interesting merchandise that they are promoting for the blood-curdling season. And there sure is a lot of new things, from coffin-key chains with a Bear-ista to match, to new water bottles topped with a witch’s hat.
It wasn’t long before my order was ready, and I was off to the second floor to try out these very interesting looking beverages.
Looking at the three of them together, they certainly were an eclectic mix of colors and styles.
The first one I decided to try was the Iced Gentle Joker Sweet and Sour. This drink comes layered with two colors, purple and red. This matches the two flavors that make up this iced drink. The purple layer is a grapefruit, and the red layer is for red raspberries.
Having learned my lesson from previous Starbucks layered drinks, I decided to mix this up and see what it was like.
Despite mixing, it was still easy to tell the two different flavors apart. The grapefruit juice layer has a nice sour-bitterness to it. At the beginning it was a bit strong but was mellowed by the very sweet raspberry jelly at the bottom.
The raspberry flavor was very noticeable, and it even included seeds in the mix, although the seeds seemed to be bigger than raspberry seeds, almost as if they were from a pomegranate.
The Iced Gentle Joker Sweet and Sour was quite refreshing, and light. The raspberry jelly was fun and meshed well with the grapefruit layer.
Next, I tried the Vanilla Mummy Creamy Frappuccino. This drink came loaded with whipped cream on top as well as a white chocolate face with creepy green eyes staring out.
The Vanilla Mummy Creamy Frappuccino was very sweet. Including the chocolate drizzle, there was a lot of sugar going on in this drink, and the Vanilla Mummy Creamy Frappuccino does indeed taste sweet.
In fact, it tasted almost exactly like chocolate and vanilla ice cream or milkshake! It certainly was an interesting contrast to the Iced Gentle Joker Sweet and Sour, and after a few brain freezes I was able to enjoy this very sweet drink.
Finally it was time for the Pumpkin Spice Latte. I had read a few reviews about this already, and it seemed like a lot of people here in South Korea were not impressed with this drink.
The Pumpkin Spice Latte also came with a dollop of whipped cream on top..
And a little bit of the pumpkin spice dusting the rim of the mug!
Having chosen the hot version, I was curious how it would be after the other two drinks.
Well, I enjoyed this one the most. It had a nice balance of spices and tasted like a really nice slice of pumpkin pie. The whipped cream, which is part of the quintessential pumpkin pie experience, added some sweetness, and the spice dusting made sure that you got some flavor in every sip!
The color of the Pumpkin Spice Latte was even an interesting orange to match expectations of a pumpkin drink.
One good thing about the Starbucks Halloween drinks is that there is something for everyone. From sour to sweet, and vanilla to fruit to pumpkin, I’m sure that one of these beverages will make you smile in this spooky season!
