Not too long ago in my neighborhood, a new café opened. It looked like a nice place, but until recently I hadn’t had the time to go in.
The name of this new location is Café Beloved, and it sits on the corner of the main shopping street in the little district where I live.
Walking into the shop, it was very clean, and had some really nice places to sit.
The owner greeted me warmly, and after that it was time to look at the menu.
There were a number of interesting drink options on the menu, and also some food choices.
In the end, I decided to get a ham and butter sandwich, or Jambon Buerre as it is called on the menu, as Café Beloved uses the French (and more proper) name.
I also ordered a Passion Orange Tea.
Waiting for my dinner, I decided to take a look at all the desserts in the display case, as Café Beloved does a lot of their own baking in-house.
After looking a bit more around the shop, I decided to sit on the wicker love seat that looked out the window.
My order was ready quickly, and the nice owner brought it to me where I was sitting.
The Jambon Buerre sandwich came with a small salad and some pickles. The owner was even nice enough to include a Fig & Cream Cheese Financier with my meal!
Looking at all the food, it was hard to decide where to start.
I tried a bit of the salad first. The salad was a few micro-greens and some lettuce with balsamic vinegar for the dressing. It was tasty, and the vegetables were fresh and crisp.
I liked that some vegetables were being included, as a Jambon Beurre sandwich can get quite rich.
Speaking of the sandwich, that was the next thing I tried.
The sandwich came with a nice portion of ham, and a generous serving of butter. In fact, I would say that there was a bit too much butter, as it became very overwhelming by the end of the sandwich.
The baguette here though was the real star of the show. It was crispy on the outside, but not so much that it hurt my teeth, and soft and fluffy on the inside. It was really delicious and tasted very fresh!
The Passion Orange tea was very different. The use of passion fruit mixed with orange created a sweet and slightly sour drink. I really enjoyed this, although I am not a fan of having to avoid the passion fruit seeds when I am drinking my tea! The blend of flavors was excellent though, and it added another dimension to the saltiness of the sandwich, and the acidic salad.
Finally, it was time for dessert, and the Fig & Cream Cheese Financier. This had a nice almond taste to it, and you could see the figs and cream cheese on top, as well as a small piece of almond.
Inside, there were little flakes of what could have been poppy seed, but I’m not sure about that. The bar was light and a bit spongy, and had a gentle sweet taste to it, with a bit of richness from the cream cheese.
After finishing my dinner, I was very satisfied with Café Beloved. It helped that the menu I had came with a variety of tastes to it, so I wasn’t bored or overwhelmed by any one item.
While the food menu is not huge, Café Beloved is a nice place to stop in for a quick bite and some lovely tea, coffee, or dessert.
