Piles of Pulled Pork From Papa John’s Korea

Pulled pork was not really a big thing here in South Korea for a very long time. While it has a long tradition in the US, especially in barbecue restaurants, the idea of long, slow, cooking of meat is not a traditional style in Korea.

These days, that is changing a great deal however. There are US style barbecue restaurants in many places, and even chains like Subway are getting in on the act and using pulled pork on their sandwiches.

Papa John’s Korea has also created its own pizza, with the appropriate name of the Pulled Pork Barbecue pizza. I was recently near one of their new locations here in Ulsan, and figured it would be a great time to try out this new menu item.

The store was very quiet, and the workers were able to help me right away. I didn’t really need the menu, as I quickly chose the Pulled Pork Barbecue (Party size so that there would be lots of leftovers!) and waited for the pizza to be ready.

As there were no other orders being prepared, it only took 20 minutes for the pizza to ready, and I jumped into the car and drove home to enjoy the Pulled Pork Barbecue pizza.

The pizza was still nice and hot when I arrived at my apartment, and after unpacking everything I opened the box to a wonderful scent.

The Pulled Pork Barbecue pizza comes with jalapenos, corn, onions, a light barbecue sauce, and of course pulled pork.

The pizza looked great, and I was very happy to take a slice and try it.

The first thing I noticed was that the pulled pork on the pizza had an interesting flavor. There was a noticeable taste of turmeric, which I thought was very nice, although a bit unusual. I’m not sure if turmeric is a normal ingredient in pulled pork rubs, but it provided a unique taste to the pizza.

The cheese blend on the pizza was also nice, and the jalapenos added a nice heat level to the slices.

Papa John’s garlic dipping sauce is still also really good. It was nice to add the creamy texture and the garlic flavor added another dimension to the pizza.

I will say that the corn and onion didn’t add much to the pizza, but the cheese blend and the barbecue sauce did complement the pulled pork nicely.

Papa John’s Korea has a really nice and different pizza in the Pulled Pork Barbecue variety. The turmeric taste is special, and the spicy jalapenos help to provide a variety of heat levels as you eat the pizza. This pizza is definitely worth a try to see if you like it.
