Two English Treats – Nescafé Gold Vanilla Latte and McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Festive Orange Yule Logs

When I wrote about the wonderful package I got from a friend in England a little while ago, there were so many amazing treats in there. I really like to save the treats that I get, so I can both savor them and anticipate how they will taste.

A few days ago, I finally gave in and decided to try two more of the fantastic things I had received: Nescafé Gold Vanilla Latte and McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Festive Orange Yule Logs!

I am sure that Nescafé is a household name to people in many parts of the world, and I have had their instant coffee here before in South Korea. I’m not sure it they have the Gold line here, and so I was very excited to try the Nescafé Gold Vanilla Latte.

Apparently they have a new recipe for this variety, at least according to the writing on the front. I didn’t have any biscuits like they show, so I guess that I am not living up to the package’s instructions!

The box comes with eight packets, and they have some very specific instructions when it comes to making the Nescafé Gold Vanilla Latte.

1) Empty the packet into your favorite mug;

2) Pour in 200 ml of hot, but not boiling water, and stir a lot;

3) Wait 20 seconds, and then stir some more;

4) Tap the mug on the table or counter to make sure that it is super creamy!

I made sure to follow the instructions to the letter to try and find out if it really did make for a tasty and creamy vanilla latte.

After all the stirring and waiting, I was very excited to give it a try.

The first sip was a little sweet, with a hint of vanilla to it. The coffee flavor was not overpowering, and I enjoyed the beginning of the drink a fair bit.

Before I finished, I wanted to try the McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Festive Orange Yule Logs to see if pairing the two together would make a difference.

Taking a look at the package, the Christmas theme to the outside of the Jaffa Cakes looked so interesting!

With snowflakes falling on a wintery landscape, and reindeer pulling a sleigh through the night sky, the package really invoked a feeling of Christmas in me!

The McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Festive Orange Yule Logs come five to a package, and are each individually wrapped, with packaging that is almost identical to the outside.

After taking one of the cakes out, I gently opened the package so that I wouldn’t disturb the chocolate coating.

There were a few bits that had flaked off from the international journey, but the McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Festive Orange Yule Log was surprisingly intact.

The McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Festive Orange Yule Logs are coated in a thin layer of dark chocolate, have a sponge cake inside which is filled with a wonderfully delicious orange center.

Taking my first bite was marvelous, as the flavors meshed so well together. The chocolate was not too sweet, and the orange flavor was not overwhelming. The sponge cake was also not too dry, which was a bonus.

Finally, it was time to try the two treats together. I had a bite of the McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Festive Orange Yule Logs and then a sip of the Nescafé Gold Vanilla Latte. It really made for a wonderful combination. The residual orange flavor mixed with the vanilla and coffee and really gave a fruity flavor to the latte.

I have to say that I really enjoyed these two items. I wish that there were Jaffa Cakes here in South Korea, but sadly I haven’t found them yet in regular stores. Maybe someday I can enjoy this combination again without having to wait for Christmas packages!
